Musical Dreams

I’ve been wanting to write a post about dreams for awhile because the subject has always been in the back of my mind (no pun intended). Have any of you dreamt of things related to music, such as having to perform in front of people [unexpectedly], or seeing your instrument break into pieces, or get yelled at in a studio class, or anything else that is traumatizing? I guess it depends on the experiences of each person, but I find all of the above very nightmarish. It would be interesting to see how many people have those similar dreams and what specifically do they mean. It goes to show that the human brain and human psychology has many mysteries, all of which can’t be solved using science and technology. Some things are just better off unsolved and left to be pondered.

End of year slowdown

Well, after two crazy months of heavy practicing and studying for auditions, I’m ready to play other stuff. I took my first orchestral audition last month, and I have to say that I’m glad that I did it because it was a good learning experience. Hopefully this summer, I can arrange to study with someone on a consistent basis, so I can realize my goals more confidently.

May is just around the corner, but the weather has been strange. Tonight was very chilly, and I’m sure my fiddle (and my bones) are not feeling it. I will be devoting the next two months to intensive teaching as I will have a semi-student recital in the beginning of June at BSM. Time to crack that whip!

Besides the Gordon College concert this weekend, the number of gigs are slowing down. I guess this is what happens as the school year winds down, kids go off on vacations, and travel plans are made. WAITIKI, on the other hand, has plenty of performances coming up – check the website – and hopefully we’ll see you at one of them.

Artists International

Good news! LW and I (Liu-Chang Duo) were selected for the Special Presentation Awards concert series at Carnegie Hall. While we are very excited, we do need to be realistic about our budget and how well we publicize our recital in order to make a profit. So if anybody has done it before, please let us know how it went and if it’s worth going forward. Even if we do not give a recital, we will definitely make a recording. Oh, we’ve been trying to think of a name for ourselves. If you have any ideas, let me know. Thanks for your support!
