The time has come to gather with many of Hawaii’s young (serious) musicians at Pacific Music Festival, a summer music festival by Hawaii Youth Symphony from July 7-16th. It’s being hosted at McKinley High School in Honolulu, a great central location with a beautiful campus and solid facilities for 150 students and 20 staff and clinicians. Ever since my first time teaching at PMI in 2006, I’ve seen plenty of changes in personnel, location, programs, etc. but the one thing that keeps me going is seeing the relentless motivation and enthusiasm of students to perform their very best at the conclusion of the program; every day I see evidence of hard work and intensive concentration which grows exponentially over the course of 10 days. It’s truly amazing to be a part of that daily learning process, and very rewarding as well.
