Teaching Courage in Encouragement

Teaching Courage in Encouragement

Hi everyone! Being a teacher for so many years has taught me lessons in patience, connection, and communication with students of all ages. And teaching during the pandemic has even pushed me to actually deal with my anxieties of being in front of the camera (I’d rather sit behind the screen and edit). With my new position as Education Coordinator of Chamber Music Hawai‘i, I’ve had to learn and adapt because I think it’s important to stay curious and understand yourself. Learning new skills that interest me are ways to stay strong and mentally healthy through all kinds of crises.

So I took the plunge and with encouragement from my close colleagues, a series of video episodes called “Chamber Music Matters” started materializing over the summer (2021). This online series is targeted at students in middle thru high school and touches upon social-emotional topics that professional musicians rarely talk about in school workshops and masterclasses. Check out the video below for my personal take on how I’ve evolved from a shy, quiet young girl to an ever-evolving educator and performing artist who will always need encouragement and some courage to talk to people. More episodes to come this fall!
