With a teaching experience that spans more than 15 years in various states, Dr. Helen Liu’s philosophy stems from her education in performance-based teaching and innovative teaching methods. My methods will be customized to meet where the student is at and to propel them forward with mindful learning habits. Much of my teaching is one-on-one, but I also welcome requests for chamber music coaching, group sectionals, small string group training, and masterclasses. Please reach out if you interested in studying with me at these venues: Punahou and Iolani Schools.
Virtual lessons will continue during Punahou’s summer session (June 7-July30). During this extraordinary time of the COVID-19 pandemic, I am only accepting in-person private lessons at my home if you are fully vaccinated. Virtual lessons via Facetime or Zoom are still a good option! Contact me for rates and to learn how to make music from the comfort of your own home.
Registration for NEW Students begins July 22
All levels are welcome. Much of the lessons will be focused on fundamentals to ensure each student’s set of “hard skills” will enable him/her to play advanced repertoire with ease.
Virtual Platforms and Fees
All lessons will be conducted remotely via FaceTime or Zoom for 45- or 60- min. lessons once per week. Additional lessons are available on a case-by-case basis. Lesson fees are payable by cash, check, or Venmo in the first lesson each quarter (8 lessons), or in advance. No refund for lesson cancellations. I reserve the right to end the lesson at any time. Students must use their own instrument, a practice log or notebook, any instructional materials (music, tuner, metronome), and a recording device to every lesson. The student’s progress is based on a positive and pleasant disposition, supportive environment and the will to succeed for as long as we work together.
