Teaching

With a teaching experience that spans more than 15 years in various states, Dr. Helen Liu’s philosophy stems from her education in performance-based teaching and innovative teaching methods. A resident in Honolulu, Dr. Liu serves as violin and chamber music faculty at Punahou School, Iolani School, BYU-Hawaii, maintains a private studio throughout the year. Much of her teaching is one-on-one, but she welcomes requests for chamber music coaching, group sectionals, small string group training, and masterclasses.

During this extraordinary time of the COVID-19 pandemic, only virtual lessons will be offered on a quarterly tuition schedule. Enjoy learning how to make music from the comfort of your own home.

Prospective Students

All levels are welcome. Much of the lessons will be focused on fundamentals to ensure each student’s set of “hard skills” will enable him/her to play advanced repertoire with ease.

Virtual Platforms and Fees

All lessons will be conducted remotely via FaceTime or Zoom for 45- or 60- min. lessons once per week. Additional lessons are available on a case-by-case basis. Lesson fees are payable by cash, check, or Venmo in the first lesson each quarter (8 lessons), or in advance. No refund for lesson cancellations. I reserve the right to end the lesson at any time. Students must use their own instrument, a practice log or notebook, any instructional materials (music, tuner, metronome), and a recording device to every lesson. The student’s progress is based on a positive and pleasant disposition, supportive environment and the will to succeed for as long as we work together.
